Does it really matter if I'm a member or not? Yes, church isn’t just something we attend – it is who we are.  We are the body of Christ and the family of God. The local church is the manifestation of the Kingdom of God on the earth today. Therefore we take membership in the local church seriously.

The Scriptures point toward the relational commitments made between members

The phrase “church membership” is not found in Scripture, but we believe the Scriptures point toward the relational commitments made between members. We also see that believers made commitments to a local body including its leadership. In the book of Acts, when people were saved they were “added to the numbers” of the local church (Acts 2:47).  This indicates, along with the lists of names found in several of the New Testament letters, the early church accounted for its members.

Church leaders, pastors, are called by God to care for the souls of those in their church 

Without church membership, the care and discipline of the local church becomes increasingly more difficult. The shepherd needs to know who is in his flock. The pastors and leaders of the church commit to assist our Covenant Members with care, counsel, prayer, and teaching. (Acts 20:28, Hebrews 13:17)

Covenanting with a local body of believers through membership is a significant commitment

It is a commitment to a spiritual family that provides support, encouragement, and accountability for one another. It is a commitment to service and sacrifice for your brothers and sisters. It is also a commitment to submission and respect for the church leadership. Likewise, it's a commitment for the leadership to serve the Covenant Members.
